MELODIES IN MOTION
Our Melodies in Motion classes provide an opportunity for preschool-age children to experience music, rhythm, and movement in a way that involves the whole child: their desire for language, the body's urge to move, the brain's attention to patterns, the ear's lead in initiating communication, the voice's response to sounds, as well as the eye-hand coordination associated with using props or musical instruments. This program improves listening skills, develops memory, and gives developing children a way to express themselves in a positive way. This is an instructor-led class and does not require participation by parents, although parents are welcome to observe the class on the screen in waiting room.
BALLET
Our students will receive instruction using a variety of ballet training methods. We use the Cecchetti method for assessing the readiness of a dancer to progress to a higher level of training. This method is a progressive system of training dancers from a pre-ballet beginning level to a professional level. The Cecchetti Method was designed with careful regard to the laws of anatomy to prepare a dancer’s body to bear the physical demands of public performance. The Method embodies qualities that are essential to the dancer; balance, poise, strength, elevation, elasticity, musicality and artistry.
COMPOSITION
This class explores the principles of dance composition including creativity, movement invention, choreographic structuring and the development of analytical skills as applied to dance. Classes will concentrate on exploring composition across various genres through improvisation; assigned movement studies; active engagement in a critical evaluation process; techniques needed for the creation of solo/group composition; and learning choreographic phrases for the purpose of improved retention.
ACROBATIC ARTS
Acro is the beautiful fusion of classic dance technique and the precision and athleticism of acrobatic elements. Often defined by unique choreography, acro dancers seamlessly blend musicality, emotional expression, line and extension with acrobatic movements in a dance context. These classes will also focus heavily on conditioning.
TAP
Tap dance uses the sound of the tap shoes hitting the floor as a percussive instrument. Tap dance sharpens reflexes and improves memory skills and coordination. Beginning classes will work toward establishing fundamental tap movements, vocabulary and will work on basic rhythms and steps that progress into fun and lively dance combinations. Tap dancing is a great way to develop musicality, timing and balance. This class is open to ages 9 and older.
HIP HOP
Hip Hop Dance is a style of movement characterized by bounces and rocks, executed to Hip Hop music. It has deep historical and social roots in African American culture. While frequently referred to as a singular dance style, Hip Hop dance is part of a whole culture of Hip Hop, that includes Deejaying, Graffiti, Emceeing, Breaking, and more.
